Session 93 - Jaxii Comes Home
14th November 2024
In-game timeline: Start of session: 1490DR Tarsakh 27. End of session: 1490DR Mirtul 7
Now in Baldur's Gate, our "Heroes" ask around about ravens and large, colourful birds that may have been sighted. Ravens are common, giant birds less so. Iwee chats to a local raven, who is as helpful as he can be, which is not very helpful. Iwee names him Caw. He seems unimpressed at this.
Jaxii and Derrick hire a horse. They spend the rest of the day coming up with a name for it. The final name was Mrs Marmalade. It was not worth the effort spent on it.
Karoshi visits the temple.
They set out towards the Storm Horn mountains. The party eventually work out that they will pass relatively close to Moonfall, where Iwee's parents and sister still live. They decide to take a short detour to visit. This turns into a long detour when it turns out that it is a full moon the following day, and the adults are having to head off to the cave for the night and they are a little short of guardians to look after the young ones back in the village (despite there now being fewer young ones since the "Ruins of An-Sen Incident"!) - the party decide to stay on an extra night to help out, which is very much appreciated by the villagers.
The night passes without incident, and the following morning, after the adults return, our "heroes" head off - waved on their way by the grateful villagers.
They eventually arrive at the Storm Horn mountains, and they leave the main path to follow a trail that they have been told leads to a dragonborn clan village. Jaxii is feeling nervous, but also feels strangely at home here, despite never having visited this area before.
Two dragonborn guards are standing by an archway entrance to the village, and they challenge the group, focussing primarily on Jaxii. When they find out that Jaxii originates from the Nakshatra clan, they are most welcoming, and invite them into the village. When Jaxii realises that the entire clan are obsessed with naming horses, she is beside herself and settles in immediately.
They are brought before the village elders, who are most welcoming. The "village hall" where they sit is fairly impressive - an old building built into the rock with a large hall decorated with lit sconces and a large tapestry behind some imposing, though not especially ornate, chairs and tables.
After exchanging some pleasantries, the party get down to business. They explain the reason behind coming here, including the "kidnap" of the dragonborn by Neverember, and the hunt for Yegmir's Arm. This leads to a history lesson about how the Naksinta clan split many centuries ago, and the murder of Voldis. Yegmir's Arm was retrieved last some 500 years ago, and was able to be triggered using blood of the last direct ancestors of the Naksinta, as it seemed that neither Nakshatra nor Sintara blood was pure enough to do this. Now, however, there are no direct, pure, descendants of the Naksinta as the clans have separated for too many centuries.
This information, it seemed, was also shared with Neverember, who recently visited the clan, in exchange for the lives of the three Nakshatra clan members that Neverember had under his control. True to his word, once the information was given, which included an ancient verse that was also shared to the party regarding the location of Yegmir's Arm, he did indeed free the prisoners, who are now living back within the clan.
The group find out from the elders where the Sintara clan now live - a day or two's ride east from this place, in the Thunder Peaks. They decide to quickly head there to try to convince the Sintarans to help. As they get closer, they send Pacino in advance to drop a message - literally - to announce their coming in the hope that it will smooth their reception?
They do eventually arrive at the Thunder Peaks. Pacino guides them to where he found the clan and the group approaches, cautiously. They are met by two, well-armed guards. The guards brusquely insist that the party leave their weapons and mounts, and follow them into the small village….
