Session 92 - Return of The Baron
10th November 2024
In-game timeline: Start of session: 1490DR Tarsakh 22. End of session: 1490DR Tarsakh 27
Back in Neverwinter, Derrick and Jaxii meet up with Devon, who thanks them for the information they helped obtain and told them to keep hold of the gold they were not intending to give back anyway, as reward for saving their two delegates who were also trapped in the house.
Iwee finds out a little more about the escaped hag, whilst Karoshi asks about the Shadowfell, and racks his brain about the possible location of Demon's Gate. He is sure he has all the information he needs, just how to process it??!!
The group, now fully sobered up and rested, decide to head out after Neverember, as they are concerned about the captured dragonborn. The Treasure of Neverwinter must wait, even if it does reputedly contain the Eye of Kronos.
They decide the quickest way is by ship to Baldur's Gate, so they await, and then travel on, The Tired Adventurer captained by their friend, Grayson Hatchet, formally Bryn, formally Cranfall Beaumont. He is keen not to stay in Neverwinter long due to the growing lawlessness on the streets.
The party enjoy the journey for the first couple of days - except Derrick, who spends most of the time trying not to throw up. Karoshi teaches Lionel some new tricks, whilst Iwee learns some knot tying and Jaxii improves her seafaring skills helping out the crew. All is well.
Until the third night, when Karoshi falls asleep on watch and they are all awakened by the shouts of the crew - the ship is under attack!
Our "Heroes" rush onto the deck - Derrick wearing only his tighty-wighties and having to stop himself from rushing into the fray as he is very squishy without his plate mail (he is now in the habit of taking it off more frequently, especially after discovering someone had commissioned a fridge-magnet style sign that was stuck on Derrick's back: "Ask me about the smell :-)" ).
The ship is being attacked by some Sahuagin, and as the crew and the party battle the creatures, they are disheartened to see The Baron seems to be leading the attack. Whether by chance, or whether he specifically targeted the ship captained by one of his traitors, and whilst carrying the party of people who wrecked Shadow Isle, they will never know, since one by one the party dispatched the Sahuagin threat, with some judicious use of a Slow spell, some useful Smites, and the distraction of Derrick in his underwear, allowing Jaxii to absorb the damage dealt and to take out some of the creatures in turn.
The party survived, though some were quite battered, and the crew lost five good men and women to the sahuagin challenge. They were all keen to reach the relative safety of Baldur's Gate. On the day before they arrived, however, they spotted a large, grey raven flying towards the boat. It was being pursued by a very large bird which seemed intent on catching, and harming the raven. A large flock of normal sized ravens were harrowing the large creature, but it seemed to be ignoring them completely.
Our "Heroes" didn't really know what they could do, so they watched and waited and prepared. It was all for naught as the large bird caught the raven, and ripped it to shreds, though not before it got close enough to hint to Iwee that it was carrying a message for the dragon… The large creature, its hunt complete, flew off and Iwee raced in a rowboat to try to find the body of the grey raven, and the message, assuming it was carried, but to no avail.
Our "Heroes" arrive in Baldur's Gate with no further problems, though they are a little despondent from their journey so far…
