Session 61 - Best Get Out of Neverwinter... Again!
13th December 2022
In-game timeline: Start of session: 1489DR Hammer 19. End of session: 1490DR Hammer 22
Our Heroes are still reeling from some of the revelations found in Dagult Neverember's manor house. Derrick's family tree suddenly got a lot more… complicated, and Iwee is convinced that there was a demon in the mirror in the secret room, though her evidence for this is a little flimsy and circumstantial.
Iwee's concern deepens, however, when Derrick finds out from his Ember's Watch pals that they are looking for a female gnome who may have been up to no good on the previous night. Luckily the description they have is really vague, and Iwee had already decided to use a different disguise that day, so they think she is safe - for now.
Iwee visits Kell Findra, the hag captured by the Naval Watch on the drifting Shadow Isle, using the contact, Reagan, provided by the Little Fingers, who is working at the prison. The little bard manages to win the hag's confidence by revealing her Radiant Sisters tattoo and promising to try to help her escape her current, likely terminal, predicament. Kell Findra told the story of the initial raid on Shadow Isle, some weeks ago now, where a demon - the Demon Prince Abezethibou himself - and some minions arrived at the Isle and went straight for the hag's lair, killing all in their path. The one-winged demon went straight for her sister, Kell Gotra, grabbed the large red jewel in her crown - that the party now know to be the Eye of Kronos, and killed the hag with a relatively simple flick of his hand. The hags' mother, Kell Toran, tried to intervene and was Banished to another plane of existence and apparently has not been seen since. When Kell Findra herself tried to escape, she was set upon by the demon's minions and knocked unconscious, but not before she saw the Demon Prince leave all other treasures and walk out of the lair, killing the sahuagin Baron on the way out.
When Kell Findra came too, the island had been raided by the Naval Watch of Neverwinter and the few remaining pirates on there who had not been killed or fled during the Demon's raid, were arrested, along with herself. She is awaiting trial, which seems in no hurry to take place, and will likely not see the light of day again. Nobody has escaped the Long Walk Prison before, and very, very few get released.
Iwee feels a little sorry for the hag and promises to do her best to help, and then leaves.
The group discuss their options. They are keen to leave Neverwinter quickly, due to the fact that the Ember's Watch seem to be on the lookout for a female gnome, Karoshi is still reeling a little from his attack last time he was in Neverwinter when he almost lost his backpack, dragonborn seem to be getting harassed a bit, and Derrick has just found out that his real father is the new Lord Protector.
They are keen to do something about Derrick's "lycanthropy predicament". With another full moon approaching, and not much tangleweed oil left, they are keen to try to find Redback. The Little Fingers report that Lispeth and Redback were sighted in Waterdeep some weeks ago, and headed out east. There are also rumours that some "souls" may be available on the black market in a few weeks' time, so it is possible that the gnome and werewolf are operating again. Devon has no idea where they may be, but offers the suggestion that wherever they are, they must be somewhere where they can operate whatever tool or magic that they use to extract souls, as well as having access to souls themselves. Waterdeep is about a week's journey overland away, or a couple of days by sea.
Iwee wants to visit Silvermoon back in her old home of Lurkwood, which is about a week's travel to the north east.
Jaxii would like to find out a little more about Yeggmir's Arm, and the link to her ancestral clan - the Nakshatra clan. Her mother, Tamara, has heard that some of her clan members are likely to be passing through Neverwinter in 1-2 weeks' time, and Jaxii is keen to be able to talk to them.
In the end the group decide to travel quickly to Waterdeep, via a sea voyage, and try to pick up Lispeth and Redback's trail from there. They ask Tamara to try to warn the Nakshatra clan members to be careful when they arrive in Neverwinter, due to the strange questioning that dragonborn seem to be faced with from the Ember's Watch, and to try to hide their clan origins.
And so we leave our group of heroes once again aboard ship, this time bound for Waterdeep. After only a day and a half at sea, they are approaching the port…
