Arrived at the Well. No one has been here for decades! Should be
a good place to find historical artefacts, and maybe learn about the place. Set
up tent outside ruins of the tower. The team is working well together – this should be a good dig.

Ready to start the dig within the tower. Fed up with getting
fresh water from the stream –
looks like the well itself still has fresh water, so I’ll put some of the team
on to repairing the well head to save all our trips to the stream!

First find in the dig – some notes written by a Wizard, obviously staying
here en route to the old Forge of Spells. Implies this place had some sort of
inn or resting house as part of, or alongside, the tower. The notes are very
fragile. I’ll transcribe their contents later.

Finished repairing the well head, so I can now get fresh water
when I want it. That’ll save my energies for the dig. Found a few more coins,
but nothing unusual.

Wow! A great find! An ancient axe, engraved with Dwarvish runes – I’ll have to get those translated
later. Axe looks a bit rusted though. A good amount of coin too, though none of
them particularly special –
should fund a few more months of the dig though. What is most unusual is a
strange bronze seal of some sort, inlaid with coloured glass, and etched around
the outside with a weird phrase. I’ll make a copy here, for records:
The text says: “Dispel the guardian by saying the line, in all
Pact voices at the same time; ‘Begone loyal servant thy job is done, the war is
over, the battle’s won.’
I wonder what this is? Could the Pact refer to the Pact of
Phandelver? “All Pact
voices” – maybe the
4 Pact languages? Will have to research this more thoroughly

A few more coins found, and some more texts indicating more
people staying at this place as a stopover point either to or from the Forge of
Spells. Well, that’s something not in the documented histories of this place,
so it’s all interesting!

Excellent. Some silver goblets inset with moonstones. I don’t
think these are unique, but they have a maker’s mark, so I should be able to
trace their place and date of manufacture.

Not good. All our finds lost. Gone. Stolen. That bloody Green
Dragon must have spotted our campfire from above and come to see what he could
find. We battled the beast as best we could, but one by one we fell. I lost the
entire team, and I myself was close to death. The dragon traded my life for all
the treasure we had. That included all our finds so far. This dig has
definitely not been worth it. All my team lost, and now all our finds gone too.
Nothing to show for our efforts.

There’s nothing for it. I’m going to stick it out here and
continue the dig. I’ve decided I need some protection though. If the dragon
returns, there’s not much I can do about it, but there have been orcs wandering
quite close by recently and I need to put people off visiting. It’s a little
gruesome, I know, but I’ve used my powers to raise my past team to work as
protectors for the dig. I know the team, every one of them, and I know this is
what they would have wanted. I know I’d want the same.

Some good finds recently, though nothing on the scale of what
was stolen by the dragon. A nice ring – could be magic, I’ll have to check that out one
day. No rush. Some papers, and an interesting ‘poem’ (in the loosest sense of
the word!) about some weapon that was being enchanted in the old Forge. I
wonder if they managed to recover it before the orcs invaded? Ha! Shame no one
knows where the Forge is. Maybe if I keep digging, I’ll find clues as to the
whereabouts of that too!

Well I’m glad I decided to hide my finds in my tent! More
visitors yesterday! At least not a dragon this time – some ruffians arrived – bandits,
by the look of them, threatened my team (who obviously ignored their threats,
but I called them off, just to see what the louts wanted). They were after some
sort of “seal”. I wonder if they meant that bronze item I found? Anyway, I told
them the dragon had stolen all my finds and sent them on their way, threatening
to set my zombies on them if they came back again. I’ll increase patrols at
night from now on, just in case.

Some more interesting finds – a strange book which seems to refer to some big
event centuries ago, that I for one have never heard of! “The Corruption” or “The Cleansing”? If it’s a real event, I’m surprised
it isn’t more widely known about. Very
interesting. Written in ancient Elvish though, and only bits of the book have
survived the rages of time, so I’m finding the text difficult to fully
translate. Also, an old dagger. Looks very clean and unused. Will have to
investigate further. Will add the book and the dagger to my hidden stash!

Not much more found on this dig. Maybe I should try elsewhere in
the area? My team are looking a little ragged. Don’t smell too good either, if I’m honest. At least that dragon hasn’t been back, though.
